We Can Hurt Together - My Review of Lost and Found Sisters by Jill Shalvis

From New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis comes her first women's fiction novel—an unforgettable story of friendship, love, family, and sisterhood—perfect for fans of Colleen Hoover, Susan Mallery, and Kristan Higgins.

They say life can change in an instant…

After losing her sister in a devastating car accident, chef Quinn Weller is finally getting her life back on track. She appears to have it all: a loving family, a dream job in one of L.A.'s hottest eateries, and a gorgeous boyfriend dying to slip an engagement ring on her finger. So why does she feel so empty, like she's looking for a missing piece she can't find?

The answer comes when a lawyer tracks down Quinn and reveals a bombshell secret and a mysterious inheritance that only she can claim. This shocking revelation washes over Quinn like a tidal wave. Her whole life has been a lie.

On impulse, Quinn gives up her job, home, and boyfriend. She heads up the coast to the small hometown of Wildstone, California, which is just a few hours north, but feels worlds apart from Los Angeles. Though she doesn't quite fit in right away, she can't help but be drawn to the town’s simple pleasures…and the handsome, dark-haired stranger who offers friendship with no questions asked.

As Quinn settles into Wildstone, she discovers there's another surprise in store for her. The inheritance isn't a house or money, but rather something earth-shattering, something that will make her question everything she thought she knew about herself, about her family. Now with a world of possibilities opening up to Quinn, she must decide if this new life is the one she was always meant to have—and the one that could finally give her the fulfillment she's searched so long for.

So... This is the review that almost didn't happen. I am a Jill Shalvis fan, but I got a little nervous when I read that Lost and Found Sisters was being classified as 'Women's Fiction'. I know that makes little sense, as this genre is still closely related to Romance, however, I've watched other favorite authors make the switch and I was not a fan of the result. When I was contacted, more than once about the possibility of reviewing Lost and Found Sisters, I just couldn't turn my back on it. I have to say I'm so glad I gave it a chance.

Lost and Found Sisters follows Quinn as she leaves behind her family, a successful job, and the man who wants to marry her and visits Wildstone, California to receive and inheritance from family she wasn't even aware of. Along with this inheritance comes a whole slew of responsibilities that Quinn isn't sure she's ready or strong enough to face.

Quinn is an amazing character. She is faced with many changes in her life and yet she remains true to herself and what she has been taught her whole life. Like most women, she has a skewed self-image. She views herself as selfish and even a little bit grumpy, but in reality, she is always looking out for others and brightens many people's day.

Being a romance lover, I was extremely happy when Mick showed up. He is a great romantic interest and quickly makes up his mind to seduce Quinn, he doesn't waver. While his future isn't in Wildstone, he knows pretty quickly that he wants it to include Quinn and the baggage she comes with.

The additional romance between Tilly and Dylan is such an unexpected bonus.

Lost and Found Sisters has some fantastic side characters. Tilly, Chuck, Lena, Greta, Trinee, and Dylan are all excellent supporting cast for this wonderful story. They each bring something special to the table.

I have been a fan of Jill Shalvis's work for many years now, and with this story, she has secured me for life.
